Shortly before midnight on July 20, 2009 severe storms erupted along the Front Range of the Rockies between Denver and Fort Collins, Colorado.  These storms brought heavy rains and hail, some large, to Fort Collins and extreme southwestern edges of Weld County.  The first storm developed near Platteville and drifted southward.  This storm packed hail larger than golf balls as it worked through Fort Lupton.  Meanwhile, another cell was forming over Horsetooth Reservoir.  This storm rapidly became severe and began producing hail throughout much of Fort Collins.  Most of the hail ranged between nickel and half-dollar size in the city.  Some hail stones may have exceeded golf ball size.  Radar analysis and ground truth suggest that hail of this magnitude would have fallen amidst a 1" majority.  The Fort Collins > 1.75" HailSWATH pinpoints the mostly likely area to have received large hail given available data.  This storm reorganized and intensified south of the city and resumed a track similar to the initial Fort Lupton storm, propagating over southwestern Weld County with another round of hail
